Patios, Paths and Driveways

Patios

Patios can be constructed from various durable materials, each offering different aesthetics and price points. Our Experienced Paving contractors have completed various amounts of patio areas and can help you to turn your ideas into reality.

  • Gravel: The most affordable option, easy to install and provides excellent drainage, though the surface can be unstable.
  • Concrete: A cost-effective and durable choice, available as poured concrete or in the form of paving slabs and block paving.
  • Brick: Offers a classic, timeless look and falls in a mid-price range.
  • Natural Stone: Includes materials like sandstone, limestone, and granite. It provides a natural, unique, and highly sought-after aesthetic but can be more expensive.
  • Porcelain: A popular, low-maintenance option that is highly resistant to stains, algae, and slipping, often available in large formats for a modern look.

Paths

There are many different path ideas that you can consider for your pathway, whether it be budget-friendly gravel, mulch, or stepping stones; classic brick or cobble paths for traditional charm; modern concrete slabs (stamped/stained), slate, or mixed materials with grass; or natural wood/decking pathways, often incorporating curved designs, lighting, and edging for definition and style, using options from rustic to contemporary.

Budget-Friendly & Quick

Gravel/Shingle: Cost-effective, easy to install (use a weed membrane and edging), comes in many colours, and offers a satisfying crunch.

Mulch: Soft, natural look that blends with beds; good for eco-friendly options.

Stepping Stones: Versatile (stone, concrete, wood) laid in grass, gravel, or pebbles for a simple, classic look.

Traditional & Rustic

Reclaimed Bricks: Adds instant character and charm; can be laid in patterns like herringbone.

Cobbles/Setts: Creates a timeless cottage garden feel, often paired with natural stone.

Wood/Decking: Decking boards or easy-fit squares create a warm, modern feel, great for decking through the garden.

Modern & Stylish

Mixed Materials: Combine slabs with grass, or set slabs in shingle for a contemporary look.

Geometric Slabs: Durable, clean lines for a structured, low-maintenance path.

Slate: Stepped or chipped slate offers a sleek, natural finish.

Stamped/Stained Concrete: Plain concrete can be coloured or stamped to mimic stone or wood.

Design Tips

Curves: Make gardens feel larger and add intrigue.

Edging: Brick, metal, or wood contain loose materials and give a neat finish.

Lighting: Illuminate paths for safety and ambiance.

Archways: Frame entrances for elegance.

Driveways

There are various popular materials for your driveway like block paving, tarmac, gravel, and resin, each offering different aesthetics, costs, durability, and maintenance needs, with options ranging from traditional stone to modern permeable surfaces, catering to diverse budgets and styles while adding value to your home. Give us a call to discuss your ideas.

 Popular Materials & Features

  • Block Paving: Very popular, versatile, durable, easy to repair individual blocks, but needs weed prevention.
  • Concrete: Strong, long-lasting, relatively quick to install, easy to clean, can be brushed for grip, but can crack.
  • Gravel: Cost-effective, natural look, great drainage, wide range of colours, but can move around.
  • Resin Bound: Smooth, modern, permeable (good drainage), low maintenance, but premium cost and requires professional install.
  • Tarmac: Durable and common, but can look industrial.
  • Natural Stone (Granite, Sandstone): Elegant, traditional, ages gracefully, very durable.
