 At  Fence Cardiff making and fitting garden side gates are one of our most common garden tasks an essential element of any outdoor space. As the gaps between neighbours vary so much side gates for houses will often be supplied and fitted on site often comprising of a fence and gate installation if the gap is too wide for a single gate and you don't have the requirement for a double side gate. 

So whilst wrought iron is a metal when most people use the phrase metal gates they are not talking about wrought iron - but ultimately that it down to the individual, so we always double check. Metal gates will either be made from steel or aluminium. Whilst years ago aluminium would have been cost prohibitive it has certainly grown massively in the last few years as a material for gates. It has the advantage of being lighter than steel or wrought iron and it also won't rust even though all metal gates, wrought iron included will have paint protection.

The designs of an aluminium gate are more solid than those found for steel and wrought iron due to it's lighter construction and are similar to those found for composite gates.

For garden gates they will continue to look smart provided they are not bashed too hard, which can cause dents that can be difficult to remove. Metal is the most common material for security gates and will follow the same materials used for fencing which is commonly galvanised steel.

 As you would probably expect with the growth of composite and PVC fencing there will generally be the option to have a matching gate from the manufacturer. Whilst this is a service offered by most manufacturers they generally have long lead times and the danger is that it is your responsibility to ensure that the measurements are correct. With some composite and PVC manufacturers it is possible for our team to make a gate in a similar fashion to our bespoke wooden gates but there will probably be more limitations. All said if you do have one made it will look good and require little to no maintenance for many years
